Accessible Educational Material (AEM) with Assistive Technology
Accessible Education Materials
Every student has the right to to Accessible Educational Materials, it's the Law!
A student that has an IEP or 504 may have Text to Speech, Dictation, Annotation or a wide range of other accommodations. It is the law to provide the student with these accommodations at the same time as providing materials to the rest of the class.
Accessible Educational Materials means anything used with students in your class must be readily available to all students.
This may include: Worksheets, Workbooks, Quizzes, handouts, items uploaded to Clever, Google Classroom, Canvas, SeeSaw, sent via email.
If you need in person support with this please reach out to your Instructional Coach or your Assistive Technology Specialist for help.
Case Examples : Every Student can benefit

The Straight A Student
She is popular, involved in clubs and sports. What we don’t see is she struggles with reading. She comes home immediately after practice or games and works on homework for 4 hrs every night. She asked for help in school a few years ago but everyone told her she was doing fine because her grades were good. She started to think that she was doing something wrong and became embarrassed and will not ask for help any more. She pretends that everything is perfect but she is exhausted and stressed out.

The ELD Student
He's such a nice boy. He smiles at everyone and never seems to be in a bad mood. He family recently moved here from Mexico and His parents do not speak English. He speaks some English and He is getting better at it every day. Sometimes you wonder if He is just smiling at you because she has no idea what you just said and He doesn’t want to be rude. He turns in her homework on time but many times it is not finished.

The Student w/ Blindness
He is probably the smartest kid who has ever been in your class. He uses a screen reader to get a lot of the content needed for his classes. His favorite class? Math. But, he keeps telling you that his screen reader isn’t reading the math homework and you don’t have time to read the problems to him and help the other students.

The TAG Student
There is nothing this kid can’t do and he is proving it by working toward an IB Diploma and excelling in any sport he tries. You cannot imagine how he is fitting everything in his schedule but he is and he is doing it well. He is one of those kids that doesn’t need to spend a lot of time working on homework or studying and school seems to come easy to him.
